One to one laptop program at McAuley

McAuley may soon be in a postion where there will be enough laptops in the school for each student. We are interested in getting your ideas on how to implement the use of the laptops in the school.

The basic question is should we issue the laptops to students or loacte them in racks in rooms?

If Issued to Students:

• You would be free to use the laptop how and when you wish while at school (pending approval from the class teacher). eg. in Mercy square during lunch.
• It would be the students responisbility to bring it fully charged to school everyday.
• While at school the laptop would have internet and printing access.
• While at home, the laptop can only use software already installed on it.
• At home there would be no printing or internet access
• There would be a small fee to cover insurance on the laptop (school insurance will not cover laptops taken home by students)
• Storage at school would be an issue. Would you carry the laptop around all day?
• The laptop always remains the property of the school.

If Located in a class room:

• The teacher controls the use of the laptop.
• The laptops are automatically secured and set to charge at the end of every lesson.

Other issues:

• What size laptop would you prefer, 10 inch netbook or 15 inch "standard" laptop?
• Would your preference change if you were issued the laptop as opposed to having it located ina room?
